All students in every major must complete General Education (GE) requirements to earn a degree at UC Merced.

In your first year, you can take a combination of classes toward:
- GE
- Your intended major(s)
- Your intended minor(s)
- A minor is not required but could be a great complement to your major!
- Electives (courses taken for personal interest) that:
- May not fill a specific requirement
- Count toward the 120 total units required for graduation
The GE requirements have changed for Fall 2023 (and later) admits.

On the Schedule of Classes (open course list) home page, use the new feature that launched 6/12/23:
- Select Fall 2023 as the term.

In the GE Requirements box, use the drop down menu to search for classes in a particular GE requirement.

Note that this will only display classes in the new GE requirements that apply to Fall 2023 (and later) admits.
