Welcome to UC Merced and to your My First Term planner!
This section contains information that will help you create a plan for your first semester in Fall 2021 based on the required courses in your declared major in the School of Natural Sciences.
NOTE: in Summer 2021, the new My First Term Planner on My Degree Path is available ONLY to Fall 2021 first year (freshman) admits in a major in the School of Natural Sciences (SNS).
COURSE RECOMMENDATION EMAIL 6/24 - 6/25/21
IMPORTANT: carefully read the course recommendation email that you receive on Thurs. 6/24/21 or Fri. 6/25/21!
If you have sent unofficial or official AP or IB exam scores or transcripts of college courses taken during high school to UC Merced by June 1:
- We have reviewed your test scores or transcripts to place you in the appropriate course(s).
- You may see a comment in your course recommendation email that says "You have already received credit for XXX class at UC Merced".
If you have NOT yet sent your AP or IB exam scores or college transcripts to UC Merced:
- Email a screen shot of your test scores or college transcript to the BAC academic advisor who sent your course recommendations.
- Providing unofficial proof of your test scores or college courses taken in high school may allow you to take different classes in Fall 2021 at UC Merced.
- Official transcripts are due to UC Merced by July 1.
- Official test scores are due to UC Merced by July 15.
OVERVIEW OF MY FIRST TERM PLANNER
To enroll in Fall 2021 classes at UC Merced:
1. PLAN: Use My First Term Planner to PLAN your required courses in advance for your School of Natural Sciences major. My First Term Planner is located in MyDegreePath in your student portal (connect.ucmerced.edu).
Select the My First Term Plan for your intended School of Natural Sciences major.

My First Term Planner displays individualized course recommendations based on your:
- University of California Analytical Writing Placement Exam taken on May 22, 2021
- UC Merced placement exams (math, chemistry, CSE) completed by the June 1, 2021 deadline
- Summer session 2021 courses at UC Merced
- Official AP or IB exam scores received by UC Merced by June 1
- Official transcripts of college courses taken in high school that have been received at UC Merced and evaluated by June 1
- Intended major in the School of Natural Sciences (SNS)
In addition, your Bobcat Advising Center temporary summer academic advisor has included comments in your course recommendation email after reviewing your:
- Unofficial AP or IB exam scores reported on your UC application or sent to UC Merced
- Unofficial copies of college transcripts for college courses taken during high school
