First Year Students

The Bobcat Advising Center (BAC) is the academic advising home for all first year (freshman) students in every major.

All first years have an assigned academic advisor in BAC.

Update 6/22/20:

Registration for Fall 2020 admits has been moved to July 27-31.

Course recommendations are expected to go out during the week of July 20-24 (exact date not yet confirmed).

If you are a fall 2020 first year admit with a general academic question, email

Our team of BAC academic advisors will respond to messages sent to our general email address.  Our entire team works together to help incoming students during May, June, July, and early August.

We appreciate your patience waiting for a response since we work with more than 2,500 incoming first years!

One of the BAC advisors will email you individual course recommendations for Fall 2020 classes (expected to be during July 20-24).

The advisor who sends your course recs will be your contact for academic questions throughout Summer 2020.

Fall 2020 first year admits will receive their BAC academic advisor assignment for 2020-21 on August 21.

Your assigned BAC academic advisor will be an important resource and primary contact for you throughout your first year.

Appointments with Fall 2020 admits will begin in September 2020.

After you arrive on campus in late August, schedule an appointment with your BAC academic advisor at least once each semester.

During the appointment, you will have the chance to discuss your academic history (college courses or AP/IB exams already completed), choice of major and career, GE requirements, academic and co-curricular activities that support your goals, summer plans, intended graduation date, and much more.

We look forward to meeting you and helping you throughout your first year at UC Merced!
