Deciding Minor after Major Declaration

Minors are secondary knowledge to your declared major and are great for students who has multiple interests and wants to explore part of a different major. Minors are also great for taking secondary knowledge that may support your declared major.

Here are a few things to consider when deciding whether to add a minor or not:

  1. You must have a declared major before declaring a minor.
  2. You can declared any minors within any School, however, some majors and minors cannot be paired together.
  3. Not all majors has minor equivalent, and some minors do not have major equivalent
  4. You must declared a minor before you reach 90 total units.
  5. Minor can be declared as soon as their first semester at UC Merced as long as you have a declared major.
  6. You must complete your minor prior to or at the same time as your declared major.
  7. Meet with your BAC academic advisor to discuss details about declaring a minor
  8. After meeting with your BAC academic advisor, you can submit the Minor Change form.
