Waitlisting and Waiting

COURSE WITH WAITLIST OPTION

If you are not able to register for the courses that you want for the next semester, all hope is not lost!

UC Merced has a waitlist system designed to automatically manage student enrollment when a course is full. You can find more details by visiting the Course Waitlist page

In short, if a course is full, you can add yourself to the waitlist and wait for a seat to become available. Waitlist seats are limited, so take advantage of it when possible. Students are notified and granted permission to register on a chronological order. You must wait until you receive an email notification to register for the course.

It is important for you to monitor your UC Merced email daily for an email notification from the Office of the Registrar. Once you received that notice, you will have exactly 18 HOURS to act and register for the course. If you miss your timing, you will lose your spot and have to re-waitlist for the course.

You only need to waitlist for the smallest section of the course.

  • If the course has NO linked course section, you waitlist for the single lecture.
  • If the course has a linked course section, you waitlist for the linked section only.

It is important to know that you can only waitlist for one section of the same class. Also, you cannot waitlist for a different section of a course you are already register for.

COURSE WITHOUT WAITLIST OPTION

Not all courses have the option to waitlist and you will need to monitor the course schedule instead. This is more common in courses with a seperate lab section (e.g. BIO, CHEM, PHYS).

This is on a first come first serve basis and it is recommended you check the course schedule daily. Make sure all required sections are available to successfully register.
