To graduate in 4 years, most students need to declare a major by their second year.
This is especially true if your major requires sequential courses in math, chemistry, biology, engineering, Spanish, or other areas.
Choosing a major is a big decision for most students! If you are undeclared or uncertain about your major, talk with your Bobcat Advising Center advisor. We are here to help you explore options and identify resources to help with your decision.
The Center for Career and Professional Advancement (CCPA) also offers free career inventories for UC Merced students. These inventories may help you identify majors and careers that fit best with your interests, strengths, and goals.
MAXIMUM NUMBER OF SEMESTERS
As you consider different majors, it's important to know that each School at UC Merced expects students to graduate within a certain number of semesters:
* School of Engineering majors: must complete degree within 10 semesters
* School of Natural Sciences majors: must complete degree within 9 semesters
* School of Social Sciences, Humanities and Arts majors: must complete degree within 9 semesters
Summer sessions--at UC Merced, community colleges, or other schools--do not count against the maximum number of semesters allowed by each School.
