FALL 2025 ADMITS

LIVING LEARNING COMMUNITIES (LLC) IN FALL 2025

If you will live on campus in Fall 2025 and were accepted into an LLC, read the welcome message sent to your UC Merced email.

  • Message includes information about any courses required in Fall 2025 for students in that LLC.
  • Note:  some LLC do not have required courses.

If you have questions, email livinglearning@ucmerced.edu.

  • Send the message from your UC Merced email and include your student ID number.

 

SPARK 10 RECOMMENDED FOR ENGINEERING MAJORS

All Fall 2025 first years must complete SPRK 001 or SPRK 010 with a C- or higher by the end of Spring 2026.

SPRK 001 or 010 fills a General Education (GE) requirement.

  • Most first years will take SPRK in Fall 2025.

School of Engineering (SOE) faculty recommend that engineering majors take SPRK 010 (rather than SPRK 001) and take it in Fall 2025.

  • SPRK 010 was developed specifically for SOE majors but is open to first years in any major.
  • All first years are allowed to take either SPRK 001 orr SPRK 010.

 

ENGINEERING 091 AVAILABLE IN FALL 2025

Engineering 091 (ENGR 091, Professional Development:  People in an Engineered World, 2 units) is a required course for the following majors:

  • Aerospace Engineering
  • Biochemical & Biomolecular Engineering
  • Bioengineering
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Civil Engineering
  • Computer Science & Engineering
  • Environmental Engineering
  • Materials Science & Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering

ENGR 091 has typically been offered only in spring semester and is recommended to be completed in the first year.

The great news:  ENGR 091 is available in Fall 2025!

  • If you are an engineering major and have room for this 2-unit required course, consider taking it in Fall 2025.
  • Class size is limited to the first 1,000 engineering majors.
  • ENGR 091 is taught online.
  • If you are not able to take ENGR 091 in Fall 2025, you could take it in Spring 2026.

First years in the Professional Engineering Living Learning Community (LLC) should take ENGR 091 in Fall 2025.

 

1-3 UNIT LOWER LEVEL COURSES WITHOUT PREREQUISITES

As you develop your fall schedule, we encourage you to explore the BAC 1-3 Unit Lower Level Courses Without Prerequisites handout on our Forms tab.

  • Some of these courses may be required in certain majors.
    • For example:  electrical engineering (EE) majors must take EE 001 (1 unit) in Fall 2025.
  • Some courses may not be offered every semester.
