A class standing error occurs if a course is open only to students in certain class standings.
Check the Schedule of Classes (open course list) to see if a class has a class standing restriction.
At UC Merced:
- Freshman = 0-29 units
- Sophomore = 30-59 units
- Junior = 60-89 units
- Senior = 90+ units
If you have units from AP exams, IB exams, or college courses taken in high school, you may have a higher class standing than your year in school.
- Example: a first year (freshman) might have sophomore standing due to units from AP exams.
Your total units include all coursework completed as well as units in progress at UC Merced.
