Most science and engineering majors require chemistry (CHEM) courses in the first year at UC Merced.
CHEM classes may also be required for admission to many pre-health programs.
Common first year CHEM courses include:
- CHEM 001: Preparatory Chemistry
- (refresher course for first years who did not pass the CHEM placement exam)
- CHEM 002: General Chemistry I
- CHEM 010: General Chemistry II
- CHEM 008 and 008L: Principles of Organic Chemistry
