FALL 2023 ADMITS:
LIVING LEARNING COMMUNITIES (LLC) IN FALL 2023
If you will live on campus in Fall 2023 and were accepted into an LLC, see the welcome message sent to your UC Merced email.
- Messages went out between May 5 - June 16, 2023.
- That message includes information about any courses required in Fall 2023 for students in that LLC.
- Note: some LLC do not have required courses.

- Send the message from your UC Merced email and include your student ID number.
SPARK 10 RECOMMENDED FOR ENGINEERING MAJORS
All Fall 2023 first years must complete SPRK 001 or SPRK 010 with a C- or higher by the end of Spring 2024.
SPRK 001 or 010 fills a General Education (GE) requirement.
- Most first years will take SPRK in Fall 2023.
School of Engineering (SOE) faculty recommend that engineering majors take SPRK 010 (rather than SPRK 001) and take it in Fall 2023.
- SPRK 010 was developed specifically for SOE majors but is open to first years in any major.
- All first years are allowed to take either SPRK 001 orr SPRK 010.
WRITING 10 SECTIONS FOR ENGINEERING MAJORS IN FALL 2023
If you have met the UC Entry Level Writing Requirement (ELWR) and qualify to take WRI 010 in Fall 2023, four sections were reserved exclusively for Fall 2023 first years in the School of Engineering (SOE):
- WRI 010, section 1
- WRI 010, section 7
- WRI 010, section 24
- WRI 010, section 27
SOE first years who have met ELWR are allowed to take any section of WRI 010. However, these four sections may be of special interest--and may be a great way to meet and connect with other first year SOE majors!
WRITING 10 SECTIONS FOR PRE-HEALTH STUDENTS IN FALL 2023

If you have met the UC Entry Level Writing Requirement (ELWR) and qualify to take WRI 010 in Fall 2023, seven sections are targeted toward students who are pre-health (planning for careers in medicine, dentistry, nursing, veterinary medicine, physical therapy, public health, etc.).
These Fall 2023 sections were previously restricted to certain Living Learning Community cohorts, but are now open to any student interested in or considering a health career:
