FALL 2024 FIRST YEAR ADMITS
If you are interested in Summer Session 2024 classes, below are some suggestions.
Lower level classes (numbered 001-099) at UC Merced are intended for first years or sophomores.
The Schedule of Classes (open course list) is now available..
- Use the Schedule of Classes to view open seats in summer classes.
- Click the CRN (5-digit number) for the course to view a description, restrictions, and prerequisites for each class.
It is generally recommended that first year admits take a maximum of 2 classes (usually 8-9 units) in summer.

SCIENCE OR ENGINEERING MAJORS
Complete a college math class (college Precalculus, Calculus I, Calculus II) or college chemistry class during summer.
A summer math class is especially important if you did not complete a full year of calculus in high school and plan to do a science or engineering major at UC Merced.
ALL MAJORS
- Complete a course to fill General Education (GE) requirements.
- GE requirements are based on your Catalog year (the year you entered UC Merced).
- The new Catalog is usually released in early April for the following year.U
- To see your GE requirements:
- Go to the Catalog.
- Select your Catalog year in the upper right corner.
- Example: Fall 2024 admits would have a Catalog year of 2024-25.
- Select General Education in the left column.
- Take a course in your intended major.
- Use the Catalog to view all courses required in your intended major.
- Select Academic Programs in the left column.
- Select your intended major.
- A sample 4-year graduation plan is included above the requirements for that major.
- Click on a course to read the description.
- To see course descriptions for all UC Merced classes:
- Use the Catalog.
- Select Course Descriptions in the left column.
- Use the Catalog.
- Use the Catalog to view all courses required in your intended major.
IF YOU HAVE NOT SATISFIED ELWR
All first years must complete the UC Entry Level Writing Requirement by the end of your second semester.
If you have not satisfied ELWR in another way, complete Writing 001 in summer.
